During your pre-departure briefing at the Bamba Experience office in Cuzco, we will give you all of your tickets for the buses, trains and entry to Machu Picchu Archaeological Site. For the majority of this 2-day trip you will not be accompanied by a guide. You will only have a guide for the Machu Picchu Archaeological Site tour.
Arrive to Cuzco anytime. Enjoy the rest of the day to walk around town and make last minute preparations for your big trip ahead. Attend your pre-departure briefing and get a good night's sleep at Milhouse Backpackers & Hotel.
Hostel pick-up and transfer by car to Ollantaytambo for the journey to Aguas Calientes by train. Wander through the quaint town of Aguas Calientes on your own and have a fulfilling lunch at a touristic restaurant. Go for a relaxing afternoon dip in the hot springs or take an optional 1.5-hour round trip walk up to the Mandor Waterfalls before returning to town for a typical dinner at a local restaurant on your own. At 6:00pm your guide will meet you at your hotel for a quick briefing and to specify the meeting time at Machu Picchu Archaeological Site.
Your English Speaking guide will meet you at the entrance to Machu Picchu for a guided visit to the archaeological site (approximately 2 hours). After your tour, your guide will return to Aguas Calientes and you will be on your own with plenty of free time to explore the hidden corners of this ancient Inca city. Choose from the optional treks to climb Huayna Picchu (additional 26 soles at least 2 weeks in advance) or walking to the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for panoramic views of the site. The rest of your trip will be on your own to return to Aguas Calientes by bus, have lunch, take the return train back to Ollantaytambo and bus to Cuzco. Upon arrival you will need to make your own way to your hostel.}
Take an OPTIONAL hike up the steep peak named Huayna Picchu, which is located inside the Machu Picchu archaeological site. This sometimes muddy peak takes about 45 - 60 minutes to hike up and awards you with unforgettable views of Machu Picchu from a coveted perspective. Keep in mind that if you want to take this optional hike, you must now purchase your ticket at least 2 weeks in advance for an additional 30 soles in order to get one of the 400 passes (200 people are allowed up at 7:00am and 200 more at 10:00am). SUGGESTED PACKING LIST: sun hat, sun block, sun glasses, camera, extra batteries and memory card, charger, waterproof bags for your camera, hand sanitizer. Bring extra cash for snacks, water and meals. Bathing suit for hot springs in Aguas Calientes town (this activity is available for an additional 10 soles).
