Guatemala Mayan Explorer is a 9 day self guided package tour with organized hotels, local activities, local guides and local transport. Explore Antigua, Lake Atitlan, San Jorge La Laguna, Chichicastenango, Semuc Champey, Flores and the Mayan temples of Tikal.
Your driver meets you at La Aurora International Airport or your Guatemala City hotel and transfers you to Antigua. Settle in near the colonial streets, cafes and volcano views of Guatemala's best-known highland city.
Start with pickup from your hotel or hostel and travel about one hour to the base of Pacaya Volcano. Walk with a local guide for around two hours toward the volcano viewpoint, then return to Antigua and continue by shared minivan to Panajachel on Lake Atitlan.
At 09:00 AM take a shared boat day tour across Lake Atitlan to visit Mayan communities such as San Juan La Laguna and San Pedro La Laguna. Later return to Panajachel and continue to San Jorge La Laguna for a night with a local Mayan family.
At 8:00 AM travel from San Jorge La Laguna to Chichicastenango Market, one of Guatemala's largest traditional markets. Enjoy time to shop, bargain and interact with skilled Mayan sellers before returning to Antigua. This market visit operates on Thursday and Sunday.
Transfer from your Antigua hotel toward Lanquin, the gateway area for Semuc Champey. This is a full travel day by shared transport with technical stops along the way.
Meet your local guide at the hotel reception for a day tour around Kanba Caves and Semuc Champey. Experience the cave area and relax in the crystal natural water pools surrounded by tropical forest.
Leave Lanquin by shared van and travel north toward Flores in the Peten region. This is a long travel day with technical stops before arriving near Lake Peten Itza.
Your driver meets you at the hotel for an early transfer to Tikal Park. Arrive early for the jungle atmosphere, wildlife and Mayan temple experience before returning to Flores.
At 10:00 AM transfer from Santa Elena bus station to Guatemala City by first class public bus. Arrive in Guatemala City and continue with your onward travel plans.
Walk up from the volcano base with a local guide and continue toward Lake Atitlan after the experience.
Visit Mayan communities around the lake, including San Juan La Laguna and San Pedro La Laguna.
Continue to San Jorge La Laguna for a family home stay and a closer look at local Mayan life.
Shop, bargain and connect with local Mayan sellers at one of Guatemala's most colorful traditional markets.
Experience Kanba Caves and relax in the natural pools of Semuc Champey with a local guide.
